Meeuw gets expelled from hedonis- tic paradise by the S.U.N, the three headed authoritarian ruler of the sky, when she disobeys and stares into its mouth. As punishment her wings are clipped and she falls to Amsterdam. A Newsical broadcast covering the Rebecca Riots: It is July 13th 1843 and West Wales has suffered terri- ble harvests, while rents, tithes, poor rates and crucially the turn- pike tolls rise higher and higher. Agricultural communities are plunged into poverty. Recalling a blessing in Genesis ‘Let thy seed possess the gate of those who hate them’, mobs of farmers dress themselves as Rebec- ca to march on the tollgates. In the battle that ensues, fluo fringed gate builders clash with the masked and resplendent daughters of Rebecca.
‘Order!’ goes the cry. But still the lords shout and the hordes whinge and the battle rages. The queen, her roy- al majesty’s ‘Most Gracious Speech’ is about anything but grace. In the Houses of Parliament they don’t hit each other with flaming sticks, yet, but they may as well. Will we ‘build Jerusalem in England’s green and pleasant land’ like Blake imag- ines in his once anti-establishment poem, turned patriotic hymn, once everything has been destroyed in the blaze? We’re not crying, the smoke got in our eyes.
A film about a Fish Prince trapped in a super- market herring package, based on Grimms fairy tale The Fisherman and his Wife. Fish gladly offers wishes to the grocery shopper protagonist but will the outrageous greed of the consumer push her too far? Will the per- ilous stack of toilet paper tumble? A chorus of onion-chopping supermarket employees weep as this dream sequence rolls throught the aisles. Made as a blast of catharsis in virus days when real supermarkets had become allegorical spaces, fraught with tension and danger.
